My View: It was a great read! It has wonderful, true characters, unexpected (and some completely expected) twists, and a strong plot. The many characters, locations, and quick-moving events demand careful (and– in the middle– boring) reading, but if you keep going, the excellent ending is worth it. A truly satisfying and fun read. Emma is so real and multi-faceted, especially due to her unique mixture of recklessness, duty, and desire. She deals with issues like duty to stay with her widower father, being unsure of whether she ever really loved someone she now despises, forgiveness, and realization of the amazing people she's always been surrounded by and never noticed. Imperfect, but kind. Jane Austen set out to create a heroine only she could love, but Emma's endearing sentiments, attitude checks, and misdemeanors are inspiring, hilarious, and realistic. How could you not love her?

Yep, it was hyped for its TV premier a little while ago. Seeing the slogan about her "matchmaking" made me want to read the book! (And that initial excitement was not disappointed-- Emma totally delivered the promised scheming, drama, and character.)
